Staging Dilemma’s

To begin with, I had decided to start off stage and then when the audience are in and seated, walk into the acting space. However, whilst doing further research into Josef Svoboda, I came across a performance of his that had a from of split staging. This method involved actors on stage at various time and then with the introduction of certain lighting aspects, the actors towards the rear of the stage came into focus.

Svoboda Split Light Staging

This image prompted me to investigate the possibility of using a mirrored film instead of actual mirrors. As, I believe that with lights angled at the correct position, the audience will be able to see through the film; which would be concealing myself. Nevertheless, I would have to carry out a few experiments and decipher what method would be best. This would only be a starting image however, as I would eventually move into the pre-existing acting space, I have previously discussed.

As well as this, I have investigated the idea of creating a physical [timeline] path from the centre point of my piece. For instance, I would create a box shape made from orange of blue electronic tape and lead off with it in a rectangle shape from both right and left. This would have a sense of framework, allowing the audience to understand that it is a place I am going and have been too. As of yet, I am undecided on this point, as i feel it may look or come across as a little tacky or un-needed. If this is the case, I will just keep to my original thought and not have a ‘pathway’ too and from the current space.
