Debating audience connection

Throughout my performance I shall be engaging with the audience on several occasions, thus why I have to consider their own involvement and engagement within my performance. Whilst I have included the audience in some aspects of the performance; for instance, their reflections within the curved mirrors. I am planning to erect a large screen or mirror/reflective surface, that is able to have light bounced off of it that allows the audience to see above themselves; through the use of the reflections within the mirror on stage.

This aspect would also tie in with my concepts of self appreciation and/or form of insecurity in the apparent lack of hair I have at the back of my head. The audience’s own experience of the mirrors would link to my own concerns and insecurities when I am near a mirror; as I always angle my head to see if I can see what’s happening on top. The link between both the audience own insecurities of having mirrors everywhere would hopefully mirror my own insecurities within the piece [No pun intended].

This concept of design came from reading a book named The Scenography of Josef Svoboda (1971). Within the book, was a design that showed a mirror like object designed to hang from the ceiling to reflect the stage from an unusual angle. This method created a different sense of the stage and narrative of the play, however it also opened up the space to create a larger stage image. The design is shown on page 161 image,
